Dolvett Quince and Bob Harper team up to deliver Power Ab Blast with six contestants from the Biggest Loser television show.
The Ab Blast consists of four workouts: Standing Abs, Cardio Abs, All-Out Abs, and Yoga Abs. The workouts are short in length. Three are 10 minute workouts and one, Cardio Abs, is 15 minutes. Power Ab Blast is a new release from Lionsgate.
Here’s a summary of what each workout contains:
Standing Abs – This workout has some of my favorite moves. Dolvett has the contestants use a medicine ball for the squat chop move that is a great way to work obliques. The bonus is you’re also working arms and legs. Standing abs also has knee strikes with the medicine ball, and planks on the ball. This isn’t Tony Horton’s 10 Minute Trainer. It’s a doable workout that is a good place to start if you’re looking for a 10 minute ab workout.
Cardio Abs – Bob Harper leads this segment. It’s a quick cardio workout that’s based on the philosophy that you can have a six pack, but if you’re covering it up with fat no one will see it. The moves are simple. Bob has the group doing weighted jacks, wood \
choppers, and squat pulses to get the heart rate up. It’s really cool to see real people doing the exercises in this segment. The workout is only 15 minutes. Do this one first, then follow it up with the Standing, All-Out or Yoga Abs and you’ve got yourself a workout!
All-Out Abs – The exercises in this segment are done on the floor. I love this workout. There is some tuff stuff in here. Planks with knee drops, side planks with dips, and the bridge. The cues are excellent in this workout and Dolvett does a good job of motivating the contestants. It’s a solid 10 minute ab workout.
Yoga Abs – Plank to downward dog, downward dog with leg raises, and some functional balance moves are all a part of this segment. Bob includes the triangle pose (one of my favorites yoga moves). The moves are basic, but will get the job done. This workout develops balance and strength.
What I like about this DVD is it keeps it real. It doesn’t say that it melts fat or torches calories. There’s no over-selling. It’s a workout that if you do it consistently you will get definition in your mid-section and burn calories. Combine all of the chapters for a 45 minute workout, or do one before section every day for a 10 minute workout before or after work.
