The Best Workout/Running Play List Ever.

Today I came across a web site that claimed to have found the “100 Best Workout Songs”.  After reading the list I decided it was time for me to update my own favorite tunes for working out and/or running to.  Why?  Because many of  the ‘100 Best’ workout songs wouldn’t be included on my iPod at all.  They definitely aren’t the best songs to work out to.

The number one song on the ‘100 Best’ list was Stronger by Kelly Clarkston. Second was Rumor Has It by Adele.  I teach fitness classes at a Y that purchases pre-mixed music CDs from Power Music or Dynamix for us to use so when I put a CD in for class I don’t always know what I’m getting. When a Kelly Clarkston or Adele song comes on I run over to the player and hit SKIP!

I also avoid workout CDs that have music by Taylor Swift and in particular the song Never Getting Back Together which happened to be number six on the ‘100 best’ songs list.  Number 17 was Somebody That I Used To Know by Goyte. Seriously?  When that song comes on the radio I start fishing around for something else to listen to and absolutely skip over it if it comes on (like it did this morning) when I’m teaching.

The music I select to put on the play lists I create for my own workouts or training runs don’t have Taylor, Goyte, Kelly or Adele on them. I know, I know.  Music is like politics and religion.  Everyone has very strong opinions about all three.  So, feel free to tell me the songs on my play list don’t do it for you.  Be sure and drop your music suggestions in the comment box.

I like  to work out to songs that have a strong dance beat.  I don’t have 100 song suggestions, but I have enough to keep you motivated and energized throughout a 60 minute workout!
