I Like To Move It!

If you’re looking for creative ways to add more physical activity to your daily life without joining a gym there are plenty of resources at your fingertips.  You will find links to two of my favorites in the sidebar:  Leslie Sansone’s Walking Club and Exercise TV.  Many of the workouts are free and some can be downloaded for a nominal fee. Plus they can anywhere you go via iPad or a downloaded app to your smart phone.

Beyond that there are workout videos too numerous to count, so let me direct you to a few that I or some of my clients have tried and gave good reviews.  The following list is not conclusive but hopefully will get you pointed in the right direction depending on your fitness level and workout preferences.

1.  Two of my clients in particular have a love/hate relationship with Jillian Michaels.  It’s a toss up which one they hate/love the most but it’s definitely between Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred and Jillian’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism.  Keep in mind these are more advanced workouts so if you don’t complete them the first time around, stick with it.  It will get better.

2.  One of my favorite exercise video stars is Patrick Goudeau.  This guy just has a great attitude and is very creative.  I confess that whenever I get bored with the class I am teaching at the YMCA that I work at I review one of Patrick’s videos and it gets my creative juices flowing.  My favorite is  Patrick Goudeau’s Play Ball.  Play Ball uses a medicine ball throughout the entire workout.  No other equipment is required but believe me that little weight ball can kick your you-know-what.  Patrick’s fans have selected Patrick Goudeau’s Lean Hot Body as their Number One workout pick.  I’ll check it out and provide a review for you here soon.

3.  Anything by Cathe Friedrich.  You really can’t go wrong here.  It would be hard for me to pick my favorite but being a step junkie I might have to go with Cathe Friedrich’s Athletic Step.  The choreography is not super difficult but is challenging enough.  I personally don’t want to have to watch a video several times before I feel like I can follow the steps.  I was able to jump into this rather quickly and got a great workout.

4.  For stretching and relaxation Karen Voight’s Full Body Stretch looks like a good pick. Karen’s form is excellent and the video was taped in a beautiful setting that encourages relaxation and peacefulness.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a home workout video visit Collage Video where you can play a clip of each video and get an idea of the setting, instructor and workout intensity.
